A Strategy starts with the question: What do I want resolved?
I first help you clarify what it is you want to know. I do this with your support – asking questions of you and those around you to understand and get to the heart of the issue.
Then more questions are asked. Where do you want to go? How best to get there? What does success look like? The wisdom to answer these questions will come from the most knowledgeable on the issue – you.
I facilitate a process to help surface and prioritise your insights. I then capture, distil and share with you these insights in a framework that works for you.
And it doesn’t just stop there. The real value of a strategy comes from your commitment to its success by embedding it in your everyday business practices. A strategy needs to stay alive. I can help you keep your commitment to stay focused and on purpose to achieve your vision.
As your Strategist, I can support you to:
- clarify your project or organisation’s objectives
- surface your strategic priorities
- listen to the views of your stakeholders
- test your assumptions
- determine what success looks like and how it’s measured
- diagnose your key strengths and challenges
- build partnerships to achieve shared-value outcomes
- provide insight and rigour when developing your way forward
- help you to deliver and achieve successful outcomes

"Barb was absolutely fantastic in assisting the Potts Point Partnership refresh and refine our strategic plan. She has a very personable style and makes everyone feel validated in their contributions and seems to effortlessly obtain consensus. She made sure our strategy is a useful, clear and motivating document rather than one which sits in a drawer. We would highly recommend Barb to organisations of any size and shape".
Louise Shepherd, Potts Point Partnership
"I engaged Barbara Barkley to help ASTRA frame a future strategy. Barb worked with me to understand environmental changes and engage with ASTRA’s member organisations to hear their views. Barb ensured this process was rigorous, methodical and thoroughly understood by all ASTRA’s stakeholders. She tested assumptions, provided frank feedback and corrected our course when required. Barb combined her analytic mind with high emotional intelligence, ensuring the final product set us up for the future and had buy-in from everyone concerned."
Andrew Maiden, CEO, ASTRA Subscription Media Australia
"The NRL has been fortunate to have a person of the calibre of Barb to prepare our Women in League Strategy. Barb was able to quickly connect with the issue at hand and through a series of discussions and workshops to bring focus and attention to the strategic priorities aligned to the project. She understood that a whole of game approach was important and was able to bring key business areas into the fold, enabling a clear framework to be established that will guide the NRL into the future."
Mark DeWeerd, General Manager, NRL Community, Culture and Diversity
Barb facilitated our recent Hockey NSW Board Strategy Review Day. She supported the Board to review and reaffirm our 2017 strategic focus, as part of our current 2015-2018 planning cycle. It was a very important day for Hockey NSW to come together with a new CEO and new Board members, collaborating with current Board members to clearly understand Hockey NSW’s strategic focus.
Barb was excellent. She supported Hockey NSW to clearly identify its focus for the upcoming year and the key steps required for the board to become the high performing team needed for Hockey NSW’s success. I thoroughly recommend Barb’s work with Boards and Leadership teams to gain clarity about their strategic focus, their role as a Board Member and the steps required to become high performing teams.
David Thompson, CEO, Hockey NSW
